Development of the REB

Our Reef Enhancing Blocks are soon to be used and tested in several environments.

Natural materials

For our product, we always researched local materials that we can use. We could do this by collaborating with different companies that helped us find the ideal material composition for your application.

Biodegradable materials

As it can be advantageous for some applications to make our products from biodegradable materials, we tested our materials on after how much time the materials actually degrade in different conditions.

Promoting coral growth

We tested the materials we use in our products in a lab to investigate which materials work best for growing corals. With the results of this research, we could optimise our materials into the ideal composition for different situations.

Hydraulic engineering

With the tests we did in the waterlab we could conclude that over 90% of the wave energy could by dissipated by our reefy blocks while staying stable in hurrucane conditions.

Prototyping

In order to find the optimal shape for our products we make prototypes in the makerslab. We test them om stability, environmental friendliness and use them to find the perfect setup.

Computer modelling

With the Reefy blocks we can create modular setups to protect the coast or other marine structures. To find the perfect arrangement of blocks for every different sutuation we created a computer model to predict the wave dissipation.

The living lab in Indonesia

In the living lab in Indonesia we tested different kind of structures and set ups to find the optimal conditions for coral to grow. The coral growth is being monitored.

Burgers Zoo

In Burgers Zoo the Reefy blocks are tested in an simulate reef environment to find the optimal setup to promote coral growth.
